They know all about this fabric being used for SOF kayaks so it made the conversation easy. They don't courier it out till they have your money, which is fine, but means it wont be sent till Monday which puts me a day behind.
Had some great advice from Grant Glazer about using epoxy to protect the glued joints. He suggested that there was no real advantage to painting the frame but that if I was to do anything them perhaps a stain finish, that might be used for outdoor furniture, could work. Something that includes a timber preservative. Tomorrow I will do both.
However I did do some work today. Finished shaping the bow, stern and strings at both ends. The dogs breakfast has been cleaned up somewhat and will get hidden beneath a bit of ply covering the bow. Also shaped the gunwales and stringer edges to eliminate any sharp wooden edges against the skin. Will give the whole thing a sand tomorrow, just for fun, epoxy coat the joints and start work on the coaming.... or perhaps i will just have a long coffee.
Have also decided to make the seating, thigh supports etc. Not sure how yet but that shouldn't stop me. :-)
BTW. I heard that a friend had bought a sea kayak and had been paddling it already this summer. bah humbug.
